The New Jersey disc golf community is in an uproar following a controversial decision made by the state Department of Environmental Protection to shut down Stafford Woods — a disc golf course players say is the top ranked and most frequented in the state.

On Saturday, Voorhees Township officials published a notice informing the public that they are permanently closing the Stafford Woods Disc Golf Course and restoring it to its original purpose as a walking trail and open space, at the directive of the state.
